
Education
Dr. Guttery earned BBAs in Finance and Risk Management at the University of
Texas at Austin in 1982, a Master of Finance at Louisiana State University in
1991, and a Ph.D. in Finance at the University of Connecticut in 1994. He
received the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant
(ChFC) designations from the American College in 1985. He is employed as a
full-time, tenured Professor of Finance and Real Estate at the
University of North Texas in Denton, joining the faculty in 1994. He is also Associate Dean for Graduate Programs in the College of Business. Dr. Guttery
has held a Louisiana real estate broker's license since 1986.

Dr. Guttery has taught Real Estate Decision Making, Real Estate Principles and
Investment Analysis, Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Valuation and Appraisal,
Comprehensive Financial Planning, Personal Finance, Risk Management and
Insurance, and Corporate Finance at the graduate and/or undergraduate levels.

Dr. Guttery has written a monograph on commercial real estate mortgages, has

Certified Financial Planner (CFP)® Program Director
Since early 1995, Dr. Guttery has been the university's Certified Financial
Planner program director in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Connecticut, which
in aggregate, has been one of the largest live-instruction CFP® Board-registered program in
the country. His program has taught over 1,000 students investment planning, tax
planning, insurance and risk management planning, estate and trust planning, and
retirement and employee benefits planning.
Personal Information
Dr. Guttery has been married to his wife, Patricia, since 1988. They have two
children, Austin and Katherine, and reside in the Dallas suburb of Highland
Village.
